Welcome to our Passover gathering. The disciples and Jesus are gathered for the Passover meal. We begin by remembering when Jesus offered the humblest gesture of welcome to his friends by washing their feet. This was usually the work of servants. You are invited now to enter the upper room, pause at the door to have your hands washed and then proceed to stand before the
table.

Passover Meal
- Jesus: Welcome, we are glad that you could join us tonight as my disciples and I gather for the Passover meal. Soon we will commune together, but first, I must take care of something important with my disciples.
- Jesus: I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me
- Disciples: Surely not I, Lord? (talking over each other)
- Judas: Surely not I Rabbi?
- Jesus: Yes it is you. (Judas leaves hurriedly )
- Jesus: Now that that is done, I invite you to commune with us
Communion
- Jesus: (say while tearing a piece of pita bread) This is my body, which is given for you; This is my blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you and for many, for the forgiveness of sins; Take the bread and dip it into the juice, then take and eat, do this in remembrance of me. I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father’s kingdom
- Following the Passover meal, Jesus and the disciples went to Garden of Gethsemane to pray. Follow the path down the hall and to the left to get the garden.
Start of the Garden of Gethsemane: (Link)
Jesus and the disciples went to Gethsemane to pray. Jesus walked away from the disciples and knelt down and knowing what was to come, prayed “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” After praying he returned to the disciples three times, each time finding them asleep. We know what follows, Judas’ betrayal, Jesus’ arrest, Peter’s denial and the crucifixion. But tonight, we focus on the garden. The agony of what was to come weighed on Jesus. The weight of the world was upon his very shoulders. His prayer: “Let this cup pass before me, not my will, but thine be done” focusses us on surrender and obedience. Jesus prayed for another way. Like
Jesus, many of us have asked ourselves if there is another way through a troubling time?

Garden of Gethsemane: (Fellowship Hall)
You are now invited into the Garden of Gethsemane to reflect and pray. Reflect on what you have been through in your life, pray for what you may be going through now, pray to be transformed by being obedient and surrendering your will God. Write a prayer on this card (hand out
a card and pen to each person). You do not need to write your name it. Stay as long as you feel you need. When finished leave in silence. As you leave, hang your prayer on the cross in the foyer and take a palm cross from the table, place it somewhere you where you will see it regularly, in your car, on your desk, on the refrigerator, as a daily reminder of Jesus’ sacrifice for us.
