Sunday School for February, 2019 By Dr. Sarah Dorsey Bollinger
“Living Faithfully Through Challenging Times; Discovering the Heart of God in the Minor Prophets”
The Adult Ministries program of the Cornwall United Methodist Church welcomes one of Lucas Ndaro’s colleagues from Evangelical Seminary, Dr. Sarah Dorsey Bollinger, to teach a must-attend class: “Living Faithfully Through Challenging Times; Discovering the Heart of God in the Minor Prophets”—the books of Amos, Hosea,Habakkuk, and Malachi. The study will end with the birth narratives of Christ in Luke to bridge the prophet's final messages at the end of the Old Testament era and the coming of Jesus Christ in the New Testament. In each session, we will look at the message of each book, ask questions of historical backgrounds, while focusing on what we can learn about the heart of God from each prophet's message. No homework expected!
Dr. Bollinger is an assistant professor of Old Testament Studies who grew up in central Pennsylvania where her late father taught Old Testament at Evangelical Theological Seminary in Myerstown throughout his career. After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in literature and philosophy at Lebanon Valley College, Sarah completed her master's degree at Evangelical in Old Testament, and then continued her studies in Hebrew, archaeology, and other Old Testament-related languages for a year abroad at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel (where she also met her husband, Phil!). After studying in Israel, Sarah began her PhD work at Hebrew Union College (Cincinnati) in Hebrew Bible and Ancient Near East Studies, and began teaching Old Testament courses back at Evangelical in 2013, where she has been teaching since. Sarah completed her PhD work and graduated this past June, having written her dissertation on women's hair rituals in the Old Testament. Sarah and Phil have a three-year-old son, David, who loves tractors and plans to be a farmer on his Grandpa Bollinger's dairy farm!
This class will meet in the chapel from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00A.M., and Sunday School classes for children from K-5 th grades will be concurrently available.
