April Seminar on the Feast of Jewish Passover
The seminar will meet in the CUMC chapel every Sunday from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. for the whole month of April. Sunday School classes for children from K-5th grades will also be available.
On the Judeo-Christian calendar, March-April is a Passover or Easter season. Every year, Jews and Christians celebrate this religious feast. But do you know how this tradition began, and what it means to both Jews and Christians? It is time to learn! The “Feast of Passover for Jews and Christians” will be discussing the history, practices and significance of the Feast of Passover in the Jewish tradition. Adults of all ages and religious traditions are invited to attend this free seminar.
Mr. Tom Maiello will be our guest speaker. Tom Maiello was born in the Bronx, lived in the Hudson Valley and has lived in Pennsylvania for 20 years. Tom earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology and theatre from Bard College (NY), a master’s degree in education from the University at Albany (NY) and most recently, a postgraduate degree in the study of Jewish-Christian relations at St. Edmund’s College, Cambridge (UK). Tom has been involved in interfaith work with various faith groups, most notably Christians and Jews, for most of his adult life. He served as dean or director of admissions at several colleges in New York, andmost recently as dean of admissions at Evangelical Theological Seminary. He currently serves as director of public relations and communications at StoneRidge Retirement Living Communities. Heenjoys teaching, having taught or guest-lectured at Lebanon Valley College, Evangelical Theological Seminary, HACC and at several churches in NY and PA. He began a local radio show, “You and Your Faith” 10 years ago along with a rabbi with whom he has done interfaith work. Tom is also an ordained pastor. He is married to Pam, who is a licensed marriage and family therapist, with whom he shares two children and four grandchildren.
