Sermon Series
New Sermon Series (9/28-10/26):
James: Faith and Works
Through faith in Christ, we are called to respond in action. The book of James is about
how to live out our faith in works. It is faith that grounds us and empowers to do good
works in the name of Jesus. During this five week sermon series, we will look at key
principles of how to live life as a believer and in the community of faith.
October 19:
Sermon: Speaking and Boasting
Scripture: James 4:7-10
Words are powerful. They can encourage or hurt. James is reminding the church to be mindful and careful of the words they speak. He also warns the church about the harm that may come from boasting. Speak and live in hope of the promises of God. What words are life-giving to you? What words should you speak to encourage others? What words of affirmation do you need to hear?
October 26:
Sermon: Waiting and Praying
Scripture: James 5:13-16
James is writing to the church to remind them to be faithful to God and to live a good, right, and just life in Christ. Still though, there will be challenges to overcome. However, through it all, we are called to trust in God and to wait with perseverance. As we wait on the Lord, pray. Seek God. What brings you comfort as you wait? What spiritual disciplines draw you closer to God? What is your prayer?
November 2nd:
For 8 am and 10:30am:
Sermon: Love Increasing
Scripture: 2 Thessalonians 1:1-4, 11-12
All Saints Sunday is a day when we remember the saints who have walked before us and who has now entered into life eternal. Today, we give God thanks for these faithful people, for the impact they had on our lives, and for their faithful witness to the love of God. Today is also about the importance of the community of faith, about growing in faith together, and therefore love increases. Together, we are better in the name of Jesus.
November 2nd:
For 10:15 am:
Sermon: Genuine Community (Lisa Flory preaching)
Scripture: Ephesians 2:19-22, Hebrews 10:23-25; Acts 2:42-47; and Psalm 133.
Sermon: Based for All Saints.
This sermon on “Genuine Community” draws from Ephesians 2:19-22, Hebrews 10:23-25, Acts 2:42-47, and Psalm 133, reminding believers that true fellowship is rooted in unity, love, and mutual encouragement. Together, we are built into God’s dwelling, strengthened through shared faith, worship, and compassionate care for one another.
Song choices: And All the People Said Amen, by Matt Maher, following the message Build Your Kingdom Here, by Rend Collective.
Our God is faithful and provides for all of our needs. Our response should be hearts filled with gratitude, worship, and generosity. In this season of Thanksgiving, let us rest in the goodness of God and be affirmed that God is with us, that we are loved, and therefore are called to love others and to live with generosity in our hearts.
1November 9th:
Sermon: More Than Enough: The God Who Provides
Scripture: Matthew 6:25-34
We serve a God who is faithful and who provides. We live in a world that is demanding and is continually telling us we need more “stuff.” When experiencing challenges, we need to remember it is our God who is with us and who provides. Therefore, we don’t need to worry about anything. God provides food for the birds and and he clothes the lilies in the fields. We are called to trust in our God and to be filled with gratitude realizing that there is always more than enough, by the grace of God.
November 16th:
Sermon: More Than Enough: Overflowing Generosity
Scripture: Proverbs 11:24-25; Luke 6:38
God provides; God is faithful. There is no end to God’s love. We are called to trust in God’s provision as our hearts are transformed from fear and scarcity to joy and abundance. We are called to respond to the love of God and from the blessings we have received to live a life filled with generosity. As we respond to God, joy and blessing will abound. God calls us to live ready to give with the confidence that God will provide. This is Commitment Sunday. How will you respond? How will you make an impact in the Kingdom of God?
11/23:
Sermon: More Than Enough: The Power of the Table
Scripture: Luke 14:12-24
At God’s table, transformation happens where everyone is invited. It is at God’s table where walls come down as we seek to be peace agents. Broken lives begin to be restored and relationships reconciled. As we sit down at the table, every meal we share becomes a reminder of God’s love for all people. This Thanksgiving, may we reflect on the hope we have through Christ Jesus in a world that is hungry. Who will you invite to the table? What walls must you tear down in your life? How will you share the love of Jesus with others?
