LIVING WHAT WE BELIEVE:
THE APOSTLES’ CREED SERIES
(Sermon Themes for February 2020)
For the next nearly three months we will take a “practical” and down-to-earth look at the most
common, classic affirmation of faith: the Apostles’ Creed. The intent will not merely be to help
us understand the different doctrines it proclaims, but also to reveal the truth that what we truly
believe actually determines and directs the way we live.
February 02: “God the Father—Part One” (Isaiah 40:25-26; 43:13-16; Mark 14:32-36; Romans 8:15-17)
“I believe in God the Father Almighty,”
This week’s sermon deals with the personal intimacy and powerful presence of God as
our Heavenly Father.
February 09: “God the Father—Part Two” (Genesis 1; Psalm 19:1-6; 148; Jeremiah 1:4-7;
Ephesians 1:3-12)
“maker of heaven and earth;”
This Sunday we’ll focus on God not only as the One Who created the entire universe, but
also the One Who conceived and called each one of us with personal purpose.
February 16: “Jesus Christ—Part One” (Luke 1:26-38; 2:1-7; 23; Philippians 2:5-8)
“and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;”
Today’s message will dig deeper into the fullness of Who Jesus is, and will also ask each
of us reflective questions meant to bring greater consistency and integrity of how we live what
we believe.
February 23: “Jesus Christ—Part Two” (Luke 24:1-12, 50-51; John 5:25-29; Philippians 2:9-
11)
“He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.”
While most of us view Jesus’ resurrection as the climactic finale, the message today will
merely begin with His resurrection and then take us into a number of other important experiences
and purposes Jesus fulfills thereafter.
