A SENSE-SATIONAL CHRISTMAS #4! --“The Sounds of Christmas” (Matthew 1:18-2:3; Luke 1:18-45; 2:8-20, 28-35; John 1:1-5, 14-18)

Just as there is “breaking news” on TV, there was a “breaking angel” that delivered a number of messages to a variety of people. And yet despite all the noise, there were often periods of silence. The true sounds of Christmas is actually the “Good News” of the “Gospel”, for gospel means good news. Come to listen, but then be prepared to make some noise and spread some news! [NOTE: Today’s message will only be shared at 8 & 10:15; the “Sounds” at 10:30 will be the Christmas Cantata]

A SENSE-SATIONAL CHRISTMAS #3!
--“The Touches of Christmas” (Luke 2:1-7, 21-22, 25-28)

In the recent Covid pandemic we could often see or hear loved ones, but not touch or hold them. And when you talk about God, many say they STILL can’t see, hear, touch, or hold Him, making it hard for them to believe that He exists. But the Incarnation of Jesus changes this scenario for us all, if we would but believe, if we’d just reach out and grab Him. Come this Sunday to touch Him…and be embraced BY Him.https://youtu.be/EIa4_Uboocw

December 4:

A SENSE-SATIONAL CHRISTMAS #2!--“The Tastes of Christmas”
(Psalm 119:103; Jeremiah 15:16; Ezekiel 3:1-7; John 1:1-3, 14, 16-18; 1 Corinthians 11:17-26; Revelation 10:8-11)

From sweet candies to rich and full Christmas dinners, there are many wonderful tastes to enjoy in this joyous season! And yet—like the bitter-sweetness of Communion, which is life to us but death to Jesus—there are sour tastes that cause us to realize we’ve missed the mark of the true message of Christmas. Come sample the full menu of the full gospel this Sunday.

November 27:

A SENSE-SATIONAL CHRISTMAS #1!--“The Smells of Christmas” (Matthew 2:11; Luke 2:7-8, 16; 2 Corinthians 2:14-16a)
Today begins a five-part series highlighting each of the five senses in turn, one each for the four Sundays of Advent, and ending with Christmas Eve. We start off with the sense of smell, for this time of year brings many wondrous odors to our noses! We’ll examine sweet aromas and stinky scents, how we should smell to others, and end by giving a take-home gift to those who want one, all apropos to the season.

November 23:

THANKSGIVING EVE--“It Could Be Worse, So Give Thanks!” (Psalm 107; Romans 8:28, 37-39; 2 Corinthians 4:5-15; 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
Times are tough, and have been for some time. Times are tough, but God is tougher. Even when the LORD is upset at us for our sinfulness and unfaithfulness and our lack of commitment and our abandoning Him, still He remains holy and faithful and committed and ever with us. So despite all the bad happening around us, let us give God thanks and praise that He “works all things together for good for those who love Him!”

THE THREE P’s OF STEWARDSHIP, #2 of 3--“Perspective” (Luke 21:1-4; 2 Corinthians 8:10-15; 9:6-15)
In difficult times, we can lose our perspective, but in sacrifice, we can gain our perspective. Often we struggle to make ends meet, and it can feel like others have more than we do; yet it is often the poor who make the greatest sacrifices, and as a result, experience the greatest joy. Hopefully this message of stewardship will put many things in perspective!
Once again FB is not letting me download the 8am service or contemporary services. Seems they have changed their format. Thank you for your patience as we try to figure out a more reasonable way to stream the services live and record for later.

November 13:

THE THREE P’s OF STEWARDSHIP, #2 of 3--“Prosperity” (Psalm 24:1; Ecclesiastes 5:10-20; Matthew 6:19-21; Romans 12:8b; Philippians 4:10-12; 1 Timothy 6:6-19)
“Making money” is a necessity of life, because we need income to pay for our basic needs. But far too many people make “making money” their primary purpose and goal, losing sight of what’s really important in life. While it’s not wrong to be prosperous, this message will help us avoid five errors of prosperity.

THE THREE P’s OF STEWARDSHIP, #1 of 3--“Priority” (Proverbs 3:9-10; Matthew 6:33; 2 Corinthians 8:1-9)
When asked what’s most important in life, most folks will say family or health over money, which is true. And yet sometimes our actions betray the falsehood of our words, especially when we value “valuables” over our values! Our true values will be revealed in what we make as our priority, as today’s message reveals.
Once again FB wouldn't let us upload the 8am service. As you can see below, we tried recording on YouTube to see if that may be a better option for our service recording going forward. Thank you for your patience as we work to find the best option for those viewing online.

Sunday. October 30:

LAITY SUNDAY“I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day” (Exodus 28:24-25; 1 Corinthians 13:1; James 1:2-11) Our Lay Leader Jeff Starner will be preaching today for Laity Sunday, and the inspiration for his message was a trip to Sight & Sound to see “David”. Before the show started, they showed a preview of a movie to released soon about the history of this Christmas carol, and Jeff said to his wife, “That would make a good sermon!” So come and listen to the actual events, losses, and faith that Henry Wadsworth Longfellow experienced that led him to write the words of this poem/song on Christmas Day 1863 in the middle of the Civil War.

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS Series, #10 of 10--“All I Want Is More” (Exodus 20:17; Ecclesiastes 5:10; Luke 12:15; Romans 7:7; Philippians 4:6, 11-12; Colossians 3:2; 1 Timothy 6:6-10; 1 John 2:15-17)

We’re blessed to live in the U.S. where even the poor can fulfill the American dream of becoming a member of the middle class if not the upper. But as wonderful as our capitalist society is, there is also the downside of it potentially creating a spirit of greed when the greedy already have enough! Our finale of this series will share the problem and progress of coveting, as well as various forms of it, and most importantly, the cure for ending our covetousness.

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS Series, #9 of 10--“The Whole Truth…and Nothing But the Truth” (Genesis 3:1-5, 7, 12-19; Exodus 20:16; John 8:44; Acts 5:1-11; Romans 1:25; Ephesians 4:15, 25; Colossians 3:9)

It’s hard to make the case for one’s truth and honesty when one at the very same time justifies “little white lies” as insignificant! The first sin was facilitated by the serpent’s lie, and people have been lying ever since. In fact, even an article in Child magazine reported, “A child’s first few lies are seen as an important step in the development of the self.” So come out this Sunday and listen to a message that won’t take more than ten minutes…(Wink! Wink!)

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS Series, #8 of 10--“Givers or Takers” (Exodus 20:15; Leviticus 19:13; Psalm 37:21; Malachi 3:8; Luke 16:10; Romans 13:6-8; Ephesians 4:27-32; Colossians 3:22; Titus 2:9-10; James 5:4)

Most of us don’t see ourselves as thieves, at least not on a grand scale; but this message will reveal that we’re takers far more than givers in a lot of ways we don’t normally think of or describe as stealing. Well, there’s the saying that “the devil’s in the details”, so come listen to me detailing some of the various ways we rip others off!

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS Series, #7 of 10--“The Unadulterated Word on Adultery” (Genesis 1:27-28; 2:18, 23c-25; 39:12; Exodus 20:14; Song of Songs 1:15-16a; Proverbs 6:20-35; Matthew 5:27-29; John 8:10-11; 1 Corinthians 6:15-18; 7:2-5)

While adultery in the 21st century is still considered a sin to some, there are plenty of others who thinks it’s no big deal. It’s also true for a wide variety of sexual impropriety, except perhaps for pedophilia, bestiality, and rape, whether marital or non-marital. So this sermon will not only address the need for faithfulness to one’s spouse to avoid “The Scarlet Letter”, but also faithfulness to the Lord in all areas of sexual expression.

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS Series, #6 of 10--“The Subtle Killer in You” (Genesis 4:1-12; 9:6a; Exodus 20:13/Deut. 5:17; Matthew 5:21-22; Mark 3:5; Ephesians 4:15, 26a; Colossians 3:13)

God calls us to bring life and encouragement to others, but angry words and violent action too often bring severe injury and even death to another. This sermon will deal with the difference between unjust murder and necessary or accidental killing, as well as how to express anger—the explosive “gunpowder” of many murders—in healthy and harmless ways, through the power of Jesus’ love in us.

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS Series, #5 of 10--“Love Is at the Heart of the Matter” (Exodus 20:12/Deut. 5:16; Proverbs 23:22; Ephesians 6:1-4; Colossians 3:20-21)

Today’s message about love isn’t just about the fifth commandment, but sits at the junction of the love that is present and through ALL the commandments. Come listen, and then tell me whether you loved it or not!

“Two Towers”
 (Deuteronomy 30:15-20; Psalm 56; Isaiah 43:2; Luke 13:1-5; 14:25-33)

This Sunday is meant to be a commemoration of the 9-11 disaster, since it falls on the exact 21st anniversary. The message will talk not only about the Twin Towers in NYC, but also two towers mentioned in Luke, one chapter apart. Since it’s also our church picnic, we’re making this a Unity Sunday, with just one blended service to take place in the sanctuary at 10:30. We hope to have First Responders present to be honored, and the sermon itself will speak about God’s call to Remember, Repent, and Recommit.

“From Compassion to Conviction: Jesus’ Dual Expression of Grace” (Matthew 7:1-5; Luke 17:1-4; John 8:1-11; 1 Corinthians 5:1-2; 2 Corinthians 2:6-8; 1 John 1:5-2:1)

It is challenging to deal with a sinner who is either unrepentant or unwilling to acknowledge their sin IS sin. “Letting it go” is not a healthy option, nor is outright condemnation. Jesus, though, strikes the right balance, and in the precise order. So whatever the transgression or falsehood or denial, listen to this sermon to bring to the other both grace and accountability.
